Subject: Drunk law for cyclists
Hello!
My name is Adam Łaczek and I’m cycling/bicycle activist from Poland (Kraków).
I have found that many europan countries have non restrictive law for drunk cyclists.
i.e. in Denmark they have limit 0,05 for drivers, and they don't have appointed limits for cyclist
In Poland we have limit 0,02 for cyclist and for drivers.
Cycling above 0,05 is a crime, but after first time they catch you - you have
suspended sentence, but the second time you always go to prison for 6 - 12 months
Police loves to catch drunk cyclists (about 80000 cyclist per year above 0,05), because it's very easy, and gave them good statistics (Police get bonuses) .
And there is a lot of propaganda that usually
cyclists are killed through his own fault, because they are most of time drunk etc.
really: only 6% of victims are drunk
A lot of polish drunk cyclists are in prison.
I want to write artice about law in other europan countries.
What is the limit for drivers, for cyclist? On what level you get fine(mandate) because of drunk cycling, and on what level you can go to prison (when drunk cycling is crime?)?
I hope my future article
will trigger questions.
So what I need: can You send me some direct links to law in Your country (with information about paragraph, and section)? This can be useful if somebody say "i don't belive You - show me original highway code". Can You quote proper paragraphs, and sections and translate it into English? Can You write a little about philosophy of the law? Drunk cyclists are perceived as high risk or rather not? Any information will be usefull.
Can You help me?
Best regards
Adam Łaczek
